Trail Riders Spring Break: 24th – 29th March 2019

Join us for the Trail Riders Spring break. March 24th – 29th

Five days mountain biking from our hilltop villa, exploring the Natural Park and unrivalled scenery of the Western Algarve. We’ll ride coast and country routes between the castle town of Lagos, the wild Atlantic west and the stunning hills, valleys, cliffs and forests in between.

Our routes:

Portuguese Paradise: Following cliff trails and country tracks on a loop between stunning beaches and a couple of beach bars for good measure. Some technical terrain and tricky climbs. 20km and probably the hardest ride in terms of climb and technical ability.

West Coast Way: our longest day riding 60km through the Natural Park, along leafy valleys and rugged cliffs which jut out between sheltered beaches into the relentless Atlantic swell. Refreshment stops at rural villages and two stunning surf beaches.

Twisty Valley: We head north across the countryside and into the hills for an exciting and visually stunning route weaving between scruffy village cafes, lakes and forests. 40km

Recovery ‘flat’ ride: 30km route through vineyards, small holdings, and farmsteads before following sandy trails around an advocado farm and through ancient oak woodland to our favourite village bistro for lunch. Half of this route is on small tarmac roads.

Lagos Last: 30km – 40km combining cliff paths and trails we skirt the coast to Lagos town stopping for lunch and returning inland along farm tracks and country trails.

Why Mountain biking in South West Portugal?

The climate of the Algarve is fantastic – low 20s with warm sunny days. The countryside and coast is at its finest with fast flowing rivers, rolling hills and woods full of wild flowers. The beaches and villages are still quiet with their restaurants serving the freshest spring reared food from the land and ocean.

Who is the Trail Riders Spring Break for?

Riders will have a good level of riding fitness and are comfortable riding between 3-4 hours each day with the ability to cover the distances above. During each ride we can tailor according to level by splitting the group if necessary. There will be lots of stops as required.

Anything else? As MIAS qualified Mountain Bike Leaders and REPS accredited Level 3 Personal Trainer, we’ve been offering guided rides and active holidays from our hilltop retreat in the Algarve since 2016. We’ve enjoy partnering rides with distinct, quirky stops for cheap coffee and local cuisine at remote farms and off the map Portuguese villages allowing you to experience real Portugal. In the main season our guided rides ensure ease of mind for family and different level groups who want to enjoy activities together.
